The Sarkaria Commission was constituted in 1983 to investigate and give recommendations for a healthy relationship between the Union and the States. It was a three-member commission presided over by Shri RS Sarkaria. The other members of the Sarkaria Commission were Dr. SR Sen and Shri B. Sivaraman. Sarkaria Commission was set up in June 1983 by the central government of India. Its charter was to examine the relationship and balance of power between state and central governments in the country and suggest changes within the framework of Constitution of India. [1] The Sarkaria Commission, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 9, 1983, under R.S. Sarkaria, B. Sivaraman, and S.R. Sen, aimed to enhance economic and social development through constitutional frameworks.
