Hazarduari Palace which literally means a ‘palace with a thousand doors’ has been built in 1837 by Duncan McLeod for the Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah, a descendant of Mir Zafar. Hazarduari Palace, earlier known as the Bara Kothi, is located in the campus of Kila Nizamat in Murshidabad, in the Indian state of West Bengal.It is situated near the bank of river Ganga. The Hazarduari Palace is a safe house for many distinctive historical relics and is divided into museum galleries. The most notable exhibits here are lavish paintings, distinguished weaponry and marble statues, which constitute a small part of a broad array of different artifacts. Spread over a massive 41 acres, Hazarduari, roughly translating to 'palace of thousand doors', is embellished with a thousand ornamental gateways. It was built by the architect McLeod Duncan, during the reign of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah.
