An AO Code stands for Assessing Officer code, which is a unique code assigned by the Income Tax Department to identify the Assessing Officer under whose jurisdiction an individual's or entity's Income Tax Return (ITR) will fall. This code is mandatory when applying for a new Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.
