Tughlakabad: Tughlaqabad Fort was built by Ghiyasuddin

Tughlaqabad Fort was built by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, the founder of the Tughlaq Dynasty, in 1321. He wanted to create a new capital city that would showcase his power and also serve as a strong fortress. The fortifications were designed to be 25 meters high at some points to protect the city. In southern Delhi, on the Badarpur–Mehrauli Road, to the north of Asola greens and Dr Karni Singh Shooting range, rise the ruins of the Tughlaqabad fort. The site still affords a glimpse of a pre-gunpowder era medieval fort and the city it enclosed, since it is still modestly well preserved. It was built by the Ghiyathu’d-Din Tughluq (1321-25) who belongs to the Tughluq dynasty. The fortified city was built in four years on the rocky terrain, as a defence mechanism. It is in two parts, the citadel and palaces along the southern walls forming one unit and the city to the north the other. Explore the ruins of Tughlaqabad Fort, commissioned by Ghiyas-ud-din-Tughlaq in the 14th century. Discover the hidden Baolis, ancient stepwells that were once part of the Fort's complex.
