In the history of Indian Cinema, a method actor, social activist and politician, Sunil Dutt , who wore many hats and excelled in a plethora of roles that came his way - both on and off screen. In 1982, Sunil founded the Nargis Dutt Foundation. Based in New York and backed by Indians living abroad, the foundation has so far spent half a million dollars on equipping Indian hospitals with modern cancer-fighting equipment. Sunil Dutt (born Balraj Raghunath Dutt; 6 June 1929 – 25 May 2005) was an Indian actor, film producer, director, and politician known for his work in Hindi cinema. In the memory of his beloved wife, Sunil Dutt founded the Nargis Dutt Foundation for the cure of cancer patients. He also sponsored the ‘India Project’ (an organization similar to ‘Operation Smile’ for the treatment of children with facial deformities).
