Pullela Gopichand, India's chief badminton coach and a former All England champion, has played a pivotal role in shaping the country's badminton landscape. Pullela Gopichand Academy was founded in 2001 by All England Open Badminton Champion, Pullela Gopichand. The facility trains several badminton players such as Saina Nehwal P. V. Sindhu, Srikanth Kidambi, Parupalli Kashyap, H.S. Prannoy, Sai Praneeth, Sameer Verma and many others. The second such facility is opened as a part of 40 acres Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida in March 2017. It is India’s 3rd and North India’s 1st High Performance Center. Pullela Gopichand (born November 16, 1973, Nagandla, Andhra Pradesh, India) is an Indian badminton player who in 2001 became the second Indian after Prakash Padukone (won in 1980) to win the prestigious All England men’s singles badminton championship. Gopichand has been credited with popularizing badminton in India.
