No me refiero al uso de la palabra como insulto, sino al sinónimo de “brother”, “mano”, etc. Los que viven en el exterior saben que facil es identificar a un venezolano cuando habla español y dice “ marico ” como 2 veces por oración… Hasta mis amistades que no hablan español me preguntan qué significa la palabra que tanto usamos. Siempre es un gusto decirles que significa “gay”, pero lo usamos como “bro”. Currently, I would argue that "marica" (or " marico " in Venezuela") is mostly heard in a positive light which is pretty interesting if you ask me. Still, I wouldn't recommend using it, for it remains extremely informal. Fun fact, "Marica" comes from the common name "María", considered by many a soft and feminine name.
