Khalistan , in Sikh political ideology, autonomous Sikh homeland. The declaration of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 and the religio-political vision that came with it fired the Sikh imagination with the belief that it was their God-given right to rule Punjab. Khalistan is a red line for India because the scars of the violence in the 1980s are still fresh. All political parties in India are united in their opposition to Sikh independence, so no Indian... The globalised Sikh diaspora invested efforts and resources for Khalistan , but the Khalistan movement remained nearly invisible on the global political scene until the Operation Blue Star of June 1984.
