INTRODUCTION In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 States and 08 Union Territories. These are co-educational residential schools fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. 'Jawahar Navodaya School (JNS)') is a system of central schools for students predominantly from rural areas in India , targeting socially and economically backward students who lack access to accelerated learning due to financial, social and rural disadvantages. [3][4][5] Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) provides information on admissions, programs, activities, and services for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas under the Ministry of Education. The National Policy on Education-1986 envisaged setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas that would bring out the best of rural talent.
