Human rights day: The theme for Human Rights

The theme for Human Rights Day 2024, “Our Rights , Our Future, Right Now”, highlights the continued relevance of human rights in addressing global challenges. This year, the UN human rights office, OHCHR, aims to inform and change perceptions on human rights while mobilising action. Human Rights Day , international day of observance, held annually on December 10, in commemoration of the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . The formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950, after the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day . The day is a call to action for individuals and organizations to advocate for equality, justice, and human dignity. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing global fight against discrimination, inequality, and human rights abuses. From spreading awareness to initiating impactful conversations, Human Rights Day emphasizes that everyone plays a role in promoting a fairer and more inclusive society.
