Glycolysis: In glycolysis

In glycolysis , 2 molecules of ATP are produced during conversion of 1, 3-biphosphoglyceric acid to 3-phosphoglyceric acid and 2-phosphoenol pyruvic acid to pyruvic acid each. The process by which the glucose (6C compound) is split into two molecules of pyruvic acid (3C compound) is called glycolysis or EMP pathway. The glucose is broken down anaerobically to form pyruvic acid. The pyruvic acid enters the Krebs cycle. Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell. The pyruvic acid is the end product of this process. During the glycolytic pathway, 1,3 bisphosphoglycerate is converted into three phosphoglycerate and released phosphate yields one molecule of ATP. In another step, phosphoenolpyruvate is converted into pyruvate and forms the second molecule of ATP. These two steps take place two times in glycolysis . Hence, four molecules of ATP are synthesized. The steps such as conversion of glucose to glucose-6 phosphate and fructose-6 phosphate to fructose-1, 6 bisphosphate consumed two molecules of ATP ...
