Ber fruit or Indian Jujube or Chinese apple is a Vitamin C rich fruit, used in Ayurveda for treating bleeding disorders, excessive thirst, fever, burning sensation etc. The fruit is a soft, juicy, drupe that is 2.5 cm diameter, though in some cultivars the fruit size may reach up to 6.25 cm long and 4.5 cm wide. The form may be oval, obovate, round or oblong; the skin smooth or rough, glossy, thin but tough. The fruit ripen at different times even on a single tree. Ber , known as “Badara” in Ayurveda, is a delicious fruit and an effective herbal remedy against various diseases. This fruit is a rich source of vitamin C, B1 and B2. Ber fruit is yellowish to reddish or blackish or green drupe, with white flesh, juicy, sweet, becoming mealy in fully ripe fruit. Fresh ber fruit is generally eaten as it is.
